My education in the fine art world started in 1999, when I majored in Art History & Chemistry at USC. Since then, I've worked at conservation labs at the LACMA and Getty, studied Italian Renaissance paintings at the Uffizi Gallery, and presented scientific findings at an Art Conservation Science Conference (IRUG) in Florence, Italy. I switched from academia to the commercial art world in 2006 and served in contemporary galleries and frame shops in San Francisco. Living in London in 2016 I was able to learn Art Business at Sotheby's Institute of Art. After earning my appraisal credential from the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) in December 2018, I opened Art Mode Appraisals in the Lake Tahoe area. As of July 2021, I became a Fine Art Specialist with ISA, making me an Accredited Member (ISA AM). I am also a Level 5 Senior Tax Analyst with H&R Block. I love when appraising overlaps with tax issues, such as with estates, capital gains or charitable donations.
My company appraises fine art, and we specialize in art after 1850. We also appraise collectible antiques, vintage automobiles, and almost any item in the house, garage or attic. We also regularly study new markets and learn how to appraise new collectible areas. My Appraisal Reports are IRS, USPAP and insurance company compliant. I can also help with expert witness contracts, art sales and financial planning. Note: Be sure to always work with a credentialed appraiser (someone trained with ISA, AAA, or ASA) who is USPAP compliant https://appraisalfoundation.org/pages/uspap
